About the Project

What is the new project about?

Climate protection has become everybody's business. The knowledge is not new, its realization, however, constantly needs new ideas and actions. New ways have to be shared and new forms of partnership have to be experienced. Consequently, a new initiative for climate responsibility and city partnership was established = climate partnership.

More than 4000 cities have already contracted on the objective to achieve more than a 20 % reduction in CO2 - which is an EU-objective to realize by the end of 2020. Regarding this the network of the City of Bernburg/DE, Gemeente Borne/NL, Municipio de Leiria/PT, Rajon Trakai/LT and City of Rheine/DE has agreed on climate partnership.

What is the project work about?

The project focuses on easy exchange of experience and new knowledge in local climate project work. The city network will collaborate in fields like

Between July 2012 and June 2014 each of the participating twin towns has staged a conference in its focus area including excursions (best local practice). For the future it is planned to increase the work on joint projects. Participation of citizens and NGOs is expressly requested.

Who will take part?

The call goes to everybody interested in climate change mitigation objectives. The project addresses groups of citizens and NGOs, politicians and civil servants.
